BY-PRODUCTS OF THE MAIN EVENT My special
collection of digital backgrounds is a compilation of
photos taken while wandering around the Canadian
countryside. I prefer to use all my own image elements
in my work; so I end up photographing a vast array of subjects and scenes: including some quite diverse subject
matter). That is why; even though my specialty is
portraiture; you will see many seemingly unrelated
galleries on my site.
THE
WONDER OF THE GREAT OUTDOORS During the summer
months, photography projects take me on the road a lot;
and my favourite means of accommodation has always been
camping. I've experimented with many camping styles;
from backpacking to RVing. Often, I've designed my own
tents and add-ons to accommodate different vehicles and
camping/work needs. And yes; there have been some
wildlife encounters and other interesting experiences.

backgrounds and photo objects to other photographers and
scrap-bookers. |

STUDIO
Because I prefer to live close to work and have access to
all my work stuff in the wee morning hours; my large
living room is my studio. It is a very comfortable
setting and is equipped with many different backdrops,
posing aids and lighting options. |

MY
MODELS I like to refer to my subjects (which
might be you) as models. To create an art portrait, I
need some good subject matter! So...it all starts with
some fantastic shots of my subject. That means making
her as comfortable as can be; then dressing her up, and
coaching her on what I need to get the images we both
want.

perk that fits in very well with my lifestyle; since I
enjoy all music and love to dance. |

so... A little About
Maralaina
MY
WORLD So, what happens when a costume designer
packs away her sketchbook and sewing machine; picks up a
camera and laptop, and meanders down the road toward fantasy
land? She has a lot more fun - that's what!
THE INSPIRATION Transforming mere mortals into fairies
and fantasy divas; the rendering of portraits that
offer a glimpse into a special side of themselves .... those
are the things that I find endlessly rewarding.
HOW I GOT INTO THIS
While compiling a portfolio of my costume designs, I
delved further into the world of fantasy and imagery through
the medium of photography. My
"models" loved the results and were soon making special portrait requests
for themselves and as gifts to "special someones". I had
found a little niche where I was much happier!
COMBINING
RESOURCES AND TALENTS As a bra-fitter in an
upscale lingerie boutique; I help my
clients find that "perfect fit" that makes every
woman a Diva. The right-fitting garment can work wonders to
slim-down or buxom-up a woman's figure.
As a
visual merchandiser, in the same store; I have constant
opportunity and practice in staging scenarios, promoting
concepts, and creating that certain ambiance.
Experience in the fashion/garment industry and an innate ability to visualize the
elements that will help my clients look their best; coupled
with a flair for imagery and a special interest in body
language complete the picture.
A
costuming background makes it easy to create or source out
the accessories and props that complete the "look".
